HAYS – Sue Boldra, Hays Republican, today formally announced her candidacy for Kansas’ first congressional district. Rep. Jerry Moran currently holds the position, but is leaving it to run for the U.S. Senate. Boldra, a Kansas native, has served as an educator, small business owner, and Realtor in the Hays area.
With thirty-eight years as an educator at the high school and university level, Boldra brings a background of public service to her campaign. She has been recognized with several of the teaching profession’s highest honors, including twice recognized by the Daughters of the American Revolution as the Kansas History Teacher of the Year, and the 2001 District 1 Secondary Kansas Teacher of the Year. She has also received National Board Certification, the highest achievement of the teaching profession, and was recently recognized by McPherson College as a Dayton Rothrock Alumni Fellow.
“As your representative I promise to continue the tradition of responsible leadership, listening to the people, and common sense solutions demonstrated by Rep. Jerry Moran. I pledge to always put the interests of Kansans first,” Boldra said.
The Boldras currently own the family farm in McPherson County. Land ownership has kept Boldra current and involved in the agricultural interests of Kansas farmers. The Boldra family owned and operated the premier sporting goods store in the area, Sportsman’s Supply; specializing in hunting, fishing, and bicycling for over 20 years.
“There is no doubt, our nation faces significant challenges. What we need now is a representative who can continue the tradition of rising above petty bickering and use common sense and fiscal conservatism to tackle these challenges,” Boldra continued.
Boldra and her husband of 38 years are parents of four children, and have two grandchildren. “The future of Kansas relies on the strength of families in the heartland,” Boldra added.
“I have dedicated my life to public service. As your representative, I look forward to the opportunity to continue that tradition in the United States House of Representatives,” Boldra added.
“Beginning with my rural Kansas upbringing I learned the value of honesty, integrity, and hard work. Instilled with these values I began a career of public service that would allow me to impart these values to a new generation. The future has always been my focus and I look forward to the opportunity to lead Kansas into hers.”
