The story on the from page of the Salina Journal, June 10th, concerning Monte Shadwick’s withdrawal from the First District Congressional Race, missed the real story. When asked why only five of the seven candidates had color pictures on the front page, the answer was that the story wasn’t about the candidates it was about poll results – from February. Why wasn’t Sue Boldra mentioned? Her poll numbers were above Mann’s and Shadwick’s in that poll. And in some independent polling, she ranks above or is equal to the top three. The real story is about money. Boldra doesn’t have the money of any of these men.
And that should be the story. Boldra’s poll numbers continue to worry the others in the race, because she continues to be a player – without money!! And that is the story. The fact that the lone woman in this race is being noticed and taken seriously. She has no political network, she has no personal wealth, but she has accumulated quite a following. I like her common sense solutions. I like the idea of a woman citizen legislator in Washington. I like the idea of a candidate that doesn’t always have her palm extended. I like the idea that a political position shouldn’t always go to the highest bidder, that Kansas should not be for sale. I like the idea that out-of-state money is not going to influence Sue Boldra.
Sue Boldra will work for a Constitutional Amendment for term limits, not a popular idea for those who are willing to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars for a job that pays $174,000, plus many perks and benefits if you stay long enough. The Salina Journal missed the real story – and they should not have slighted the only woman in the race.
I was privileged to meet Sue Boldra at a recent Hill City Rotary Club meeting. She is far and away the best Republican candidate for Congress from the Big First District, and I am doing as much as I can to try to get people to vote for her in the upcoming Republican Primary Election, Tuesday, Aug. 3. I strongly feel that she will do much more good in Washington for Kansas and the U.S.A than any of the other candidates.
