Yesterday, Josh Blau, my campaign manager, and I traveled to Norton for the Norton County Fair.  Steve Berry, the Norton County Republican Chair had sent an email inviting candidates to send campaign literature and information for a Republican informational display.  I emailed in reply that I would be there.  I have traveled to the Norton area a number of times and always receive such a warm, friendly welcome that I look forward to these jaunts.  Diane Becker, a member of my steering committee, and Rebecca Wetter, along with Steve Berry are always friendly and helpful.  I enjoy visiting with my Norton “family”.  The evening was cut short as the clouds started building momentum in a circular pattern and reports of rough weather to the north started coming in.  Steve advised us to start traveling south to avoid the storm.  Thanks to the Norton community for a brief, but always enjoyable, opportunity.  We understand that the storm did come in and dump a lot of water in a short time, but by 8:00p.m. the storm was over and the fair festivities continued with barely an interruption.

Not  to be sent directly home by the threatening weather, by the time we got to WaKeeney, it looked as if the center of the storm was heading east on 36 Highway, rather than south, so Josh and I stopped at the Trego County Fair.  It was the first evening for the fair and tables and booths were still being set up and the 4-H judging had recently begun.  Nervous entrants were milling around anxious for judging results.  We ran into some friends and acquaintances and met some new friends.  By the time we took our leave, the clouds were again building and rain was threatening.

Again, I want to reiterate the important civic function that these county fairs serve.  I want to thank all of you who invest so much time and energy throughout the year so that communities across the state can have the experience and enjoyment that these events offer.  What a wonderful way to encourage our youth and to model civic efficacy! We are well-blessed!
