I travelled to Emporia today, with a short stop in Marion. I had lunch with Theresa Davidson, who will be serving as the interim superintendent for the Emporia school district. Theresa was the principal at Hays High School for several years during the years that I was there. I had her two children in my government classes and her daughter and ours (Amber) played basketball together for Hays High School. We enjoyed a great lunch at Amanda’s , housed in an older down town building that has been renovated to house several businesses and agencies. I visited with some of the businesses in the downtown area.
In the evening I attended a Republican quarterly meeting. Amanda Adkins, Chair of the Kansas Republican Party and Ashley McMillan, Executive director of the Kansas Republican Party presented a state-wide plan to “get out the vote” and ensure a Republican victory throughout the state in 2010 and beyond. They are both very strong, intelligent women who give much time and energy to the future of our state. I always enjoy their presentations, their knowledge, and their passion to the cause. I was then invited to address the group and answer questions of those in attendance. The conversation always turns to term limits, control of government spending, and taxes.
Marck Cobb of Galva was also in attendance and addressed the group, as well. I enjoyed my time in Emporia and look forward to several more visits before the August primary
