The mist was collecting on the windshield as we drove from Marquette to Wilson to the events of the Czech Festival. We began the morning with a political coffee at the Wilson Senior Center where Congressman Moran, State Senator Jay Emler, and former State Representative Josh Svaty, the new interim Kansas Secretary of Agriculture were given the opportunity to address the crowd. Many questions followed as constituents asked about health care, farm policies, state programs and the U.S. mega-debt. Congressman Moran was very gracious to introduce me to the group, as well.
While I was attending the political meeting, Carl left to watch Granddaughter Aubrey dance and twirl in front of the Wilson bank, as one of Melanie Passmore’s protégés.
At 9:30 we were all lined up to begin the parade, set to start promptly at 10:00 a.m. Aubrey left her dance group and joined Grandma and good friend Beth Walizer, Russell, as we walked the parade route, handing out candy to the anxious children and greeting friends and well-wishers along the way. Carl also rode the RANS Trizzard and skirted around the parade entries, giving the children candy and “high-fives”. About half-way down the parade route, the threatening weather and sprinkles turned into a “light” rain. Mr. Irv Mitchell, president of the Wilson State Bank and driver of the bank float immediately ahead of us in the parade, rescued this damsel in distress by offering his “highly coveted Red Sox umbrella.” It was a wonderful day. We never complain about rain in July in Kansas and none of us melted!
In the afternoon, Carl and I attended a beautiful wedding in the Cathedral of the Plains in Victoria.
What an exhilarating day. God’s in His heaven, and all’s right with the world!
