We continued our day of adventure into the evening by going to the 34th annual Bennington PRCA Rodeo, sponsored by the Bennington Lions Club, Inc. Summer rodeos attached to county fairs is another family tradition. Growing up near Roxbury, we became close friends of the Crowther family. Jim Crowther, like his father before him, is the stock contractor for many rodeos across the state and nation. Frontier Rodeo Company provided the stock for the Bennington rodeo, as well. The Matt Engels Band provided the pre-rodeo entertainment and was to be the band for the post-rodeo dance. The clouds opened up just as the final bull riders were struggling to stay mounted and the dance remained only a dream. Many nationally recognized competitors come to Bennington to contend for trophies, bragging rights, and a piece of the purse. Local, state, and national talent vie for the brass ring in the fenced corral of Bennington, KS. We’re going to have to get Aubrey a pair of pink boots for her birthday. She was admiring them all night long!
